Car sales Hit badly: Time to follow the law of survival of the fittest!

As there is global economic crisis, cost cutting measures are prominent everywhere. The car industry is no exception to it and the sales of cars especially high end cars has dipped by 7.59 %. The scenario with the overall passenger car segment is however different with a growth of 2.8%.

Looking at the market-wise statistics, as per the data provided by SIAM – (the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), the premium and luxury car sales has gone down from 3636 units last year to 3360 units this year.

Known well for its premium versions, Mercedes – Benz has suffered a decrease of 34.18 percent and BMW has recorded a fall of 22.48 percent to those sales figures of last year.

German car maker Mercedes- Benz during the last month sold 181 units of C, E and S class cars as against 275 units last year the same period. Though the C class and the S class car’s sale plunged by 56.02 % at 73 units and 31.58% at 39 units respectively, the E class cars have recorded a growth of about 32.69% at the rate of 69 units.

This last year was the boom period for the automobile industry and this year it is just the reverse. The German car maker BMW has also seen a dip in its sales figures. It has gone down to 169 units from 218 units last year. The passenger cars consisting of 3, 5, 6 and 7 series sedans altogether has fallen in large extent this year during the month of May.

The level of sales in European as well as American market have also gone down proportionately as well. This simply means that folks are indeed looking at the compact cars as well as the eco-friendly light-on-pocket green electric cars.

However, defying all the predictions, Acura is planning to release the crossover SUVs with the ultimate V8 engine next year; so let’s see who’s calculations are better. Ultimately it will surely be the survival of the fittest!
