Car battery maintenance is one of the topics that should be in the mind of the people. Neglecting this small thing can become a big reason of sudden breakdown of a car. So, it is essential to maintain the car battery in a decent condition. There are many tips available for maintaining a car in a safe way. The first thing in maintaining the car battery is to clean it and make the battery free from unwanted pieces of wood, brick or metal that are left on the cover of the battery.

Using a non-metallic brush along bicarbonate of soda can be a useful option for removing all the debris and corrosion from the battery cables. After completing the job of cleaning the surface, you should unplug all the cables of battery and clean the terminals and cables.

Unplugging the negative cables and the positive one to withdraw the cables of battery should be done one after the other. A person should check the level of electrolyte by removing the cover of battery. Ideally, the level should be half an inch. If the level is low, addition of distilled water and mixing it well with battery acid is very much required.

After checking the leak and breaks across the cover of the battery, if there is any type of breakage, then you should replace the casing of the battery. However, battery should always be kept in a well insulated battery case.

Nowadays, batteries come with indicator lights. If the battery indicates green, it is fine. If it is black, then the battery should recharge and if the light turns to yellow or no color, then the battery should be replaced.
