What is a fuel throttle sensor and im going to fix the floater in gas tank?

Im not a seasoned mechanic but i wanted to change the floater in my gas tank. Would that be a difficult job? And also i was told i needed to replace my fuel throttle sensor. Whats that? I have a 94 buick lesabre
